The Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Satara is pioneer in the field of rural development through education. Today it occupies a prominent place on the education map not only of Maharashtra but also India. We are fortunate enough to have  a rich heritage of the Rayat Shikshan Sanstha. The institution of very high repute committed to social justice and national integration. The Sanstha was founded by late Padmbhushan Dr. Karmaveer Bahurao Patil, popularly known as 'Karmaveer Anna'. He followed the footsteps of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Rajarshri Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj and firmly belived that education is the panacea for the social and economical problems of the society.

The foundation of the sanstha was led by opening boarding house for students of all religions, castes and creed at village "kale" in Karad Block of Satara district on 4^th Oct 1919. In 1924 the head quarter of the sanstha was shifted to Satara.

The sanstha percieves the symbol of the aspirations of the common people. i.e. "Rayat ".  "Education through self- help" is our moto  and the sanstha strongly advocated the dignity of labour like the symbol.

Dr. karmaveer Bhaurao Patil was the first to begin earn and learn scheme in Rayat Shikshan Sanstha. Farmer, labour, children and different religious castes children face basic problem of earning. They are the  children outside of education. "Education Thorugh Self- Help" is our moto. This word is used by our Rayat Shikshan Sanstha after  the University.

Technical work is included in  Earn & Learn Scheme . The Students enrolled under the scheme are given the following types of work mainly that increase their skills in areas of their study, office work, technical work and field work. However when the distribution of work is given it is seen that all students get equal opportunity to get all different kinds of work and that each student gets eighty percent of technical work and twenty percent of field work. Office work includes working at the library, knowledge of computers, office machines such as photo copying. Field work includes working in the garden, looking after newly planted trees, play ground, cleanliness  of the campus etc.

Student Selection Process :-

1. Notice Display.

2. Those Students are enrolled in  this scheme having admissions in the senior college.

3. First time admitted students have compulsory field work  for ten days.

4. Interview is taken to know– Family income , Fathers' and Mothers' income sources.

5. Students work payment is paid as per the  university rules.

6. All students' payments are paid thorugh their personal bank accounts.

7. Students who are not having mother or father alive or not having both of them alive are given first preference in the scheme.
